KARACA CAVE
Karaca Cave is in Cebeli Village, 17 kilometres from Gümüşhane city centre. It lies 1.550 metres above sea level. To reach the cave, take the 4-kilometre road to the north on the seventeenth kilometre of Gümüşhane-Trabzon road. Stalactite formations in the cave, together with its clean air that people suffering from asthma enjoy, attract visitors’ attention. There are resting points and coffee house around the cave. The cave started to serve tourism in 1996.

The cave extends into the depths of Bozbent Mountain; even though local people already knew about the cave, it was through efforts of Geological Engineer Şükrü Eröz in 1983-1990 that the cave has come to be known to people in general.

Despite the fact that Karaca Cave is relatively small, variety and beauty of its formations attract foreign and local visitors’ attention.

Covering an area of 1.500 m2, Karaca Cave consists of four chambers. The cave is 105 metre long, with average ceiling height of 18 metres. The cave is especially rich in stalactite formations. Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, walls that resemble the organ, flag formations, curtain-shaped stalactites, flower-shaped stalagmites, pearl coloured formations, large and bulky formations, travertine levels and ponds with colours ranging from white to navy blue, are all to be seen. Although there is not a stream inside the cave, water seeping through cave walls keeps forming stalagmite formations.

Air inside Karaca Cave is motionless, as a result of which the level of moisture in the cave increases in deeper recesses of the cave. Relation to air outside, air inside the cave is cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
